Warning from Lincoln, 1838

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?-- Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! -- All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." -- Abraham Lincoln, Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois, January 27, 1838.

America's Cities of Misery

Democrats - running America into the ground, one city at a time!

Detroit Tops 2013 List Of America's Most Miserable Cities

Forbes Magazine lists the fifteen most miserable cities in the U.S. in 2013! All are in the Midwest, California, New Jersey and New York. NONE are in the "hated and reviled" South, although Atlanta, Georgia comes in at #16. And all have been governed (if we can describe it as that) by Democrats for generations.

What Is Fascism?

FascesDefining Fascism is most difficult, as there is great disagreement amongst the experts. The term was coined in 1922, when Mussolini, the Italian dictator who was initially a Marxist, came to realize that Italy could not obtain foreign investment as a Communist nation. So, employing a word derived from the Roman "Fasces," which meant a bound bundle of sticks with a protruding ax, symbolizing unity of  people under authority of the state, Italy's Benito Mussolini invented Fascism.

During the twentieth century, the European nations of Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, plus Argentina in Latin America each adopted a Fascist-style of government. Mostly these nations preserved private property as a means to serve the state. Their economies were put under control of a government bureaucracy that set wages, prices, and profits. Although large industries were forced to comply, the companies were rewarded with elimination of competition and guaranteed financial returns.

Characteristics defining a Fascist state include:
  • A charismatic dictator
  • Disdain and elimination of parliamentary systems
  • Oppression of human rights, including suppression of dissent
  • Collectivism by ethnicity, class and political creeds
  • A "progressive" agenda to benefit workers
  • Extreme nationalism
  • Pervasive propaganda
  • Militaristic government (usually).

Mining Outer Space

From Planetary Resources:
There are near-limitless numbers of asteroids and more being discovered every year. More than 1,500 are as easy to reach as the Moon and are in similar orbits as Earth. Asteroids are filled with precious resources, everything from water to platinum. Harnessing valuable minerals from a practically infinite source will provide stability on Earth, increase humanity’s prosperity, and help establish and maintain human presence in space.

Asteroids are the low-hanging fruit of the Solar System. There are close to 9,000 near-Earth asteroids, and nearly 1,000 more are discovered every year.

Is There Culture in the South?

The shooting war is over; ... now we're in a cultural war for the heart and soul of the South and for America

From CSMonitor.com: Battle over the past rages on in an evolving South
Even the word "South," in some quarters, has become a slur - a convenient repository of national guilt over the exploitation of Africans in the Cotton Belt a century and a half ago. Beyond Confederate flags coming down from statehouses, more-mundane symbols are increasingly being questioned on the local level: in town halls, college campuses, and even cemetery committees. It's part of a deepening homogenization of Southern culture that's causing anger and resentment among many in a proud region with perhaps 65 million people who consider themselves Southerners. Some observers see a note of irony in the growing suppression of conservative Southern memorials at a time when old Confederate values like militarism, chivalry, gentility, and religiosity are gaining political prominence. It's a lesson, they say, in how a rebellious American region maintains its influence beneath pressure to rescind its mottoes and murals. "The shooting war is over, but ... we're engaged in a cultural war for the heart and soul of the South and for America, too," says William Lathem, spokesman for the Southern Heritage PAC in Atlanta.

Reincarnated Politicos?

Is Sarah Palin a Latter-day Tecumseh?
From Reincar-Nation.com
I postulate that Obama and his associates are reincarnated Nazis. I also believe that it's possible some Republicans are reincarnated founding fathers. Of course, that too, is a matter of conjecture and some critics would say political bias. However, if Obama and his associates are reincarnated Nazis, it may explain their program to turn America into a fascist nation. On the other hand, if Republicans were once the founding fathers, it may explain their aversion to the Democrat's program and their desire to maintain the principles upon which this country was founded.

Today's State of the Union

STATE OF THE UNION TODAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2013
Will President Barack Obama tell the truth tonight?

* Labor-force participation at a three DECADE low.
* Poverty higher than at any time since the 1930s.
* Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reports long-term unemployment at highest levels since World War II.
* Average length of joblessness doubled from 20 weeks (last 3 recessions) to 40 weeks under Barack Obama.
* Health-insurance premiums are going up, not down as promised.
* Many employers predicted not to offer Health insurance after 2014.
* Highest number of working-age Americans receiving disability payments EVER!
* Barack Obama added more $$ to federal debt than all previous administrations combined since George Washington.
* A shrinking private sector is drowning in regulations.
* The public sector is VIBRANT - growing & searching for new ways to increase the national debt by wasting taxpayer's money.
